La presente investigación parte de la inquietud por conocer los hábitos de lectura y la cultura del libro en San Jerónimo Norte, ubicado en el departamento Las Colonias, provincia de Santa Fe. Esta localidad se caracteriza por ser un pueblo pequeño y se cree que, fundamentalmente por esa razón, con un alto índice de necesidades culturales insatisfechas. La población, al no contar con salas de cine o teatro, librerías de importancia, casas de estudio de nivel terciario o universitario, entre otros espacios destinados a la realización de estas actividades, generalmente tiene que concurrir a ciudades cercanas para poder llevarlas a cabo. Se puede afirmar que la cultura en general y la cultura de la lectura en particular están determinadas por las limitaciones en el acceso a bienes culturales propios. Para ahondar en esta problemática la propuesta es llevar a cabo una indagación de la situación de manera objetiva que pueda servir de insumo para propuestas futuras de cambio sobre la temática. Específicamente, la presente investigación tiene como objetivo principal describir los hábitos de lectura y la cultura del libro en la comunidad de San Jerónimo Norte. A través de este trabajo se tratará de responder las siguientes preguntas: ¿Qué leen los pobladores de San Jerónimo Norte?, ¿compran libros periódicamente?, ¿de dónde extraen el material de lectura?, ¿quiénes leen?, ¿con qué frecuencia?, si no lo hacen (o lo hacen con poca frecuencia) ¿a qué se debe?, ¿qué otras actividades reemplazan a esta práctica? This research is based on the interest in knowing the reading habits and book culture in San Jerónimo Norte, located in the department of Las Colonias, province of Santa Fe. This town is characterized for being a small town and it is believed that, fundamentally for that reason, with a high index of unsatisfied cultural needs. The population, not having movie theaters or theater, libraries of importance, houses of study at tertiary or university level, among other spaces for the realization of these activities, usually has to go to nearby cities to carry them out. It can be affirmed that the culture in general and the culture of reading in particular are determined by the limitations in the access to own cultural goods. To delve into this problem, the proposal is to carry out an objective investigation of the situation that can serve as an input for future proposals for change on the subject. Specifically, the main objective of this research is to describe the reading habits and the culture of the book in the community of San Jerónimo Norte. Through this work we will try to answer the following questions: What do the residents of San Jerónimo Norte read? Do they buy books periodically? Where do they obtain the reading material? Who read? How often? , if they do not do it (or do it infrequently), what is the reason?
