Tradicionalmente, se realiza durante el reposo invernal, pero también puede realizarse durante el período de crecimiento. El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de la poda en verde luego de la cosecha sobre el comportamiento vegetativo y reproductivo de durazneros de bajo requerimiento de frío, cultivados en la zona centro-este de la provincia de Santa Fe. Luego de la cosecha un grupo de plantas fue podado (T1), y otro grupo no se podó hasta el reposo vegetativo (T0), donde T1 también recibió una poda complementaria. Durante el último ciclo evaluado, se incorporó la poda en verde sin poda invernal complementaria. La poda en verde no produjo efectos negativos en el comportamiento vegetativo y en la producción de los durazneros, aunque retrasó la entrada en dormición y las etapas fenológicas comprendidas entre la floración-brotación y la cosecha. Además, disminuyó la tasa de crecimiento de los árboles, mejoró la calidad y distribución de los ramos fructíferos y de los frutos dentro de la canopia, y favoreció la distribución de la demanda de mano de obra sin incrementar sus requerimientos anuales. La poda en verde sin poda en seco complementaria aumentó en por lo menos un 87% la producción de los árboles, a través de un aumento significativo del porcentaje de cuajado de los frutos, entre otras causas. Esta mejora del comportamiento reproductivo se tradujo en una disminución del crecimiento vegetativo de las plantas no podadas en invierno. Pruning is an important cultural technique of temperate fruit tree crops. Traditionally, it is done during winter but it also can be done during the growing season. In the central-east area of the Santa Fe province, early maturing peaches varieties are used, and there are a long vegetative growth season between harvest and leaf fall (up to 150 days). Thus, the renovation of the fruit-bearing stems after harvest may be evaluates as an alternative pruning technique. After harvest, a group of plants were pruned (T1), whereas another group of plants remained without pruning (T0). During winter, both treatment received traditional pruning. Green pruning alone, without additional winter pruning, was evaluated as a new treatment during the last year. Green pruning did not produce negative effects on the vegetative and reproductive behaviour of peach trees, but it extended the vegetative growth period during autumn, delaying leaf senescence and the enter on rest. Time of bloom, sprout, and harvest were also delayed by summer pruning during the next spring. Vegetative growth rate was significantly reduced by green pruning. Furthermore, green pruning improved the quality and distribution of the new mixed shoots and fruit inside the canopy. No modification of the annual requirement of labour force was observed, however, green pruning improve its distribution along the year. Green pruning alone, without additional winter pruning, increased at least 87% fruit production, mainly by its positive effect on fruit set. Consequently, a significantly decrease on the vegetative growth was observed in non-winter pruning plants.
