This reading caused him to develop a linguistic competence solely to approach the work in the original, and was the starting point of a life-long dantesque iter lectoris. Starting from the analysis of a conference in which Borges related the details of that and other important encounters, the present work approaches some aspects of the borgesian exegesis which account for the way in which his reading of the great poem generated a dantesque dimension in his writing and in his world view, and for how the dantesque literary paradigm was reconfigured as a result of borgesian palimpsestic operations. Borges inició su diálogo con la obra cumbre del poeta florentino cuando contaba más de treinta años y a través de la traducción de Longfellow, en un libro bilingüe italiano-inglés. Esta lectura, que lo irá llevando al desarrollo de una competencia lingüística para abordar la obra en el original, inicia un iterlectoris dantesco que no abandonará durante toda su vida. A partir del análisis del texto de la conferencia donde relata los pormenores de ese encuentro, y de algunos otros de particular relieve, se abordan en el presente trabajo aspectos de la exégesis borgeana que dan cuenta del modo como el acercamiento al magno poema va generando en la cosmovisión y concepción escritural borgeana una dimensión que denominamos dantesca. Y cómo se reconfigura el paradigma literario dantesco a partir de las operaciones palimpsésticas borgeanas.
