Dora Manchado lived in the province of Santa Cruz between 1934 and 2018. She spent part of her life in Camuse Aike, in El Calafate, and in Rio Gallegos, and she was cataloged over time in contradictory ways: «deficient informant», «bad informant» or «guardian of the language». She was also considered as a «teacher of Tehuelche» within the education policy project known as «Intercultural Bilingual Education». Indeed, Dora was occupying different spaces according to her silences and elusive responses when interviewed. As an informant, Dora has also been silent. Hence the title of this article, aimed at problematizing the role of informants. This article proposes to recover the figure of Dora as a mediator, according to Ana Teresa Martínez’s proposal (2013). La historia de Dora Manchado, considerada como una de las últimas hablantes del tehuelche, y su relación con las diversas instituciones e investigadores que estuvieron trabajando con ella y también sus disensuales actitudes ante quienes se le fueron acercando a lo largo del tiempo, es una buena muestra de cómo el documento construye realidades alternativas de acuerdo con quién sea que ejerza el rol de documentador y cuáles sean los intereses —políticos, ideológicos, académicos y profesionales— que lo animen. Dora Manchado vivió en la provincia de Santa Cruz entre 1934 y 2018; una parte de su existencia transcurrió en Camusu Aike, El Calafate y Río Gallegos. Fue catalogada de maneras contradictorias: «informante deficitario», «mala informante» o «guardiana de la lengua». También fue considerada como «maestra de tehuelche» dentro del proyecto de política educativa conocido como «Educación intercultural bilingüe». En efecto, Dora fue ocupando diversos espacios a partir de sus silencios y de sus respuestas esquivas al ser entrevistada. Como informante, Dora ha sido también silenciosa. De ahí el título de este trabajo destinado a problematizar el rol de los informantes.
