Descripción
Sumario:Between 2017 and 2019, the Government of the Province of Santa Fe implemented the “Sustainable peri-urban food production program” (PSAP), whose actions and results were aimed to strengthening food and nutritional security and sovereignty, as well as the development of a sustainable agricultural production model from the social, economic and environmental aspects with a focus on peri-urban territories. In this article, some of the actions and results of the aforementioned public policy are briefly commented on, which is presented as an option that surpasses both the so-called “prohibitionist” view that advocates the prohibition of productive activities in these territories, as well as those that propose superficial reforms that do not attack the true causes of the unsustainable aspects and permanent socio-environmental conflicts that predominate food systems generate. The program was designed and implemented with the premise that these objectives require the successful and simultaneous approach of at least four decisive factors: a) land use planning, b) agroecological reconversion of productive units and development of short commercialization chains, c) value addition and productive differentiation, d) development of appropriate technologies.
