La tesis aborda la relación entre las nociones de razón y naturaleza en la filosofía de Max Horkheimer, en el marco de su teoría orientada hacia la transformación de la realidad, más precisamente, hacia lo que el filósofo denomina una sociedad racional. Algunas lecturas muy influyentes (Postone, 1993; Jay, 1989; Benhabib, 1986) han sostenido que el interés de Horkheimer por la noción de naturaleza coincide con una renuncia al afán transformador de la teoría, presente en los textos más tempranos del filósofo. Siguiendo a los autores mencionados, sería a partir de la década de 1940 y a partir de su trabajo en conjunto con Adorno que el interés de Horkheimer por el tema de la naturaleza comienza a hacerse manifiesto. Nos proponemos discutir las lecturas mencionadas. La hipótesis que nuestro trabajo busca defender sostiene que en la filosofía de Horkheimer la forma que adquiere la relación entre razón y naturaleza en una determinada época es configuradora de las relaciones sociales. Por tal motivo, consideramos que, lejos de tratarse de un desvío respecto del objetivo transformador de la teoría, es precisamente en la manera en que el filósofo concibe esa relación donde pueden detectarse los motivos por los que Horkheimer continúa considerando deseable y posible una transformación de las relaciones sociales. The thesis addresses the relationship between the concepts of reason and nature in Max Horkheimer's philosophy, within the framework of his theory oriented towards the transformation of reality, more precisely, towards what the philosopher calls a rational society. Some very influential readings (Postone, 1993; Jay, 1989; Benhabib, 1986) have argued that Horkheimer's interest in the theme of nature coincides with a renunciation of the transformative zeal of theory, which was the distinctive trait of the philosopher's earliest texts. Following the aforementioned authors, it would be from the 1940s onwards and from his joint work with Adorno that Horkheimer's interest in the subject of nature begins to become manifest. We propose to discuss these readings by arguing that Horkheimer considers the changing relation between reason and nature to be a shaper of social relations. In this sense, we consider that, far from being a deviation from the transformative aim of the theory, it is precisely in the interconnection between these two concepts that the transformative interest of the theory remains vivid.
